Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year! I am Ms. Jones and I will be teaching 7th Grade Science/Health and 8th Grade Science. This is my 4th year at Westside Global Awareness Magnet School. I graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a BS in Natural Science, Environmental Science Emphasis and a Master's Degree in Secondary Education & Teaching Credential. I've been teaching Science in LAUSD since 2006. I've always been interested in learning new things in science and I hope to evoke that same excitement in my students. I hope to encourage my students to love science and become great critical thinkers and problem solvers through the use of engaging lessons and hands-on activities. This year, we will dig deeper into the Next Generation Science Standards which will help students to think like and do the work of Scientists and Engineers. These new standards explore the intersection of 3D learning through the Science and Engineering Practices, Crosscutting Concepts and Disciplinary Core Ideas. Below you will find the major topics (instructional segments) that students will be learning this year.
7th Grade Instructional Segments: Organisms and Nonliving Things Are Made of Atoms, Matter Cycles and Energy Flows through Organisms and Rocks, Sustaining Biodiversity and Ecosystems in a Changing World and Natural Processes and Human Activities Shape Earth's Resources and Ecosystems.
8th Grade Instructional Segments: Objects Move and Collide, Noncontact Forces Influence Phenomena, Evolution Explain Life's Unity and Diversity and Sustaining Local and Global Biodiversity.
